SpaceX shares climbed roughly eight percent in premarket trading on Tuesday, October 21, as the market digested a set of third-quarter results that far exceeded Wall Street expectations. The stock had closed at $147.79 the previous day, but the new data and subsequent analyst upgrades sent it sharply higher in early trading. This immediate reaction underscores how quickly investor sentiment shifted following the company’s announcement, marking a significant moment for the publicly traded entity listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker SPCX.

To understand the magnitude of this move, it is helpful to look back at the financial figures released after the market close on Monday, October 20. SpaceX reported total revenue of $14.6 billion, a figure that represented a 161 percent year-over-year increase. This performance comfortably surpassed the consensus estimate, which had hovered near $12.7 billion. Beyond the top line, the company swung from a loss in the prior year to a net profit of $4.4 billion. Adjusted EBITDA also reached a substantial $8.8 billion, signaling strong operational efficiency alongside the revenue growth.

The earnings call served as the primary catalyst for the market’s enthusiasm. CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen provided revenue guidance for the first quarter of 2027 ranging from $33 billion to $37 billion. This projection was significantly higher than the approximately $22 billion that analysts had previously modeled. Furthermore, management outlined fourth-quarter capital expenditure plans of $35 billion to $40 billion. These funds are earmarked for AI compute infrastructure, with specific sites mentioned including Memphis and Southaven. The scale of this investment indicates a commitment to expanding the company's technological footprint rapidly.

A major driver of the recent growth is the Super Intelligence division, which generated roughly $7.6 billion in revenue during the quarter. This segment has now become the largest contributor to the company’s total income, growing nearly 830 percent compared to the same period last year. The Connectivity segment, primarily driven by Starlink, also performed well, delivering $5.2 billion in revenue. Strong subscriber additions boosted the consumer base to 13.6 million, highlighting the continued expansion of the satellite internet service into new markets and user groups.

Management expressed confidence in the demand for computing power, with Musk describing the interest from hyperscalers and other customers as relentless. He noted that current compute pricing supports payback periods of less than a year, with some scenarios potentially as short as six months. The company is targeting 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of nameplate compute capacity by the end of the year. Looking further ahead, executives discussed pathways to reach 13 gigawatts or more by the end of 2027, suggesting a long-term strategy focused on scaling up infrastructure to meet anticipated demand.

In response to these figures, a wave of price target increases swept through the financial sector. JPMorgan made the most dramatic move, more than doubling its target to $500 from $240 while maintaining an Overweight rating. Cantor Fitzgerald raised its target to $345 from $246, also with an Overweight stance. Barclays increased its target to $300 from $254, and Morgan Stanley held an Overweight rating with a $300 target. Citi, UBS, and TD Cowen also adjusted their outlooks upward, with targets moving to $240, $230, and $224 respectively, all maintaining Buy recommendations.

Other firms joined the trend of upward revisions. Wells Fargo lifted its target to $274 from $214, and Clear Street raised its to $248 from $217. Analysts broadly cited the strong quarterly performance, the accelerating expansion of AI compute capabilities, progress in Starlink, and recent Starship milestones as the key drivers behind their higher long-term growth and earnings power projections. These factors collectively painted a picture of a company with significant upside potential across multiple business lines.

The quarter also featured several strategic developments beyond the core financials. Starship achieved recent orbital success, accompanied by the deployment of V3 satellites. Starlink continued to gain momentum in enterprise pricing and adoption, while the Grok Bot saw rapid uptake. The company also detailed plans for spectrum expansion and formed special committees to explore a possible combination with Tesla. These initiatives suggest a broader corporate strategy that leverages synergies between its various technological platforms and business units.

Looking ahead, the average analyst price target has moved higher, reflecting greater conviction in SpaceX’s trajectory across launch, connectivity, and the Super Intelligence business. While elevated spending remains a point of focus for some investors, the overall sentiment has shifted toward optimism. The company’s ability to convert its technological advancements into revenue and profit appears to have convinced the market that its growth phase is far from over, setting the stage for continued volatility and potential gains in the coming quarters.
