San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama delivered a historic performance on Wednesday, scoring a career-high 52 points and recording a career-best 24 rebounds. His dominant display helped the host team secure a 112-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, extending their winning streak to six consecutive games.
The game featured significant lead changes after an early Spurs advantage. San Antonio led by 19 points in the early stages of the third quarter, but Dallas mounted a strong comeback. With 8 minutes and 17 seconds remaining, the Mavericks closed the gap to just two points. Shortly after, PJ Washington hit a three-pointer to give Dallas a 103-100 lead with 5:38 left on the clock.
The final minutes were tense as the lead swapped hands repeatedly. Naji Marshall of the Mavericks tied the game at 111 with a three-pointer when 1:41 remained. Wembanyama responded by sinking a free throw to put the Spurs back in the lead. Dallas called a timeout to organize a final offensive play, but Kyrie Irving missed a contested turnaround jumper in the lane with 2.5 seconds left, allowing the time to expire.
Wembanyama's impact extended beyond scoring, as he also blocked eight shots during the contest. He made all 15 of his free throw attempts. The French center reached his point, rebound, and block totals in just 16 minutes and 37 seconds of playing time. This efficiency made him the first player in the last 30 seasons to record at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots in a single half.
Other key contributors for San Antonio included Dylan Harper, who added 21 points, and Stephon Castle, who scored 17. De'Aaron Fox provided 10 points for the Spurs. On the Dallas side, Kyrie Irving led the team with 29 points. Naji Marshall contributed 22 points off the bench, while PJ Washington finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Cooper Flagg also had a strong game for the Mavericks, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the defeat marks the second consecutive loss for Dallas. The game remains a testament to Wembanyama's growing influence on the league, as his ability to control both ends of the floor proved decisive in a closely contested matchup.
In the first half, the Spurs maintained control of the scoring. Harper added 13 points before the break for San Antonio. For Dallas, Irving led the team with 17 points at halftime, and Washington contributed 13. The momentum shifted in the second half, leading to the dramatic finish that crowned Wembanyama with another milestone achievement.
