The humanitarian mission to Oleshky is scheduled for October 29. This date follows a two-day ceasefire that will begin on the night of October 27.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, stated in a video address that American mediation is expected to open access to the town. He described the conditions in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast as extremely dire. Russian forces have mined the roads in the area, making movement difficult.
The White House announced that Melania Trump secured the truce. A statement from the White House described the current situation in Oleshky as a humanitarian disaster. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, confirmed that Russia agreed to the pause so the humanitarian mission could proceed.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, confirmed the specific timeline. He said the operation will take place on October 29 while the ceasefire is in effect. The general staffs of both nations announced the agreement on Friday evening.
The plan aims to restore access to the town, deliver food and medicine, and allow residents to leave the combat zone. Zelenskyy noted that talks have been ongoing for some time at various levels. He stated that Ukraine will do its part and relies on American mediation to work.
