Stanley Smith, a 41-year-old man wanted for a violent incident in Ohio, was taken into custody on Wednesday by federal agents. The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force located Smith in Ravenna, ending a pursuit that had lasted more than a year. He is now in the hands of authorities facing charges from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The case stems from a shooting that occurred on July 8, 2025, in the 1400 block of Albrecht Avenue in Springfield Township. Police records indicate that Smith allegedly fired a weapon at a victim, striking the person in the leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. At the time of the incident, Springfield Township police described Smith as armed and dangerous.

Chief Jack Simone addressed the community shortly after the shooting, noting that Smith had been involved in an earlier incident at a house on Fritsch Avenue before the Albrecht Avenue shooting. Simone stated that Smith fled the area immediately after the events. Police asked nearby residents to keep their homes and vehicles locked during the manhunt. Officers identified Smith as a white man with a swastika tattoo, last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and checkered shorts.

A warrant for Smith’s arrest was issued on July 8, 2025. The case was subsequently bound over to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, which requested federal assistance. The U.S. Marshals Service later named Smith as their “Fugitive of the Week” to help identify him. Task force officers conducted numerous interviews and followed investigative leads for over twelve months before locating Smith.

Agents arrested Smith at an address in the 100 block of Spruce Avenue in Ravenna. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott commented on the length of the pursuit, stating that the task force officers never stopped pursuing the fugitive. Elliott described the arrest as an example of the agency’s tenacity in catching individuals who commit violent crimes against communities. Smith is charged with felonious assault and having weapons under disability.
