Barack Obama returned to the campaign trail in Ohio on Saturday to support Democratic candidates in the upcoming midterm elections.

The former president joined Senate candidate Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial challenger Amy Acton at a rally aimed at energizing the party base.

Obama focused his remarks on the administration of Donald Trump, specifically criticizing foreign policy choices made during the second term.

He stated that the current president decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for, a reference to the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Obama argued that voters had a clear opportunity to reject the governing party after two years of what he described as chaos and incompetence.

He told the crowd that they could finally say enough is enough after enduring a period of governance unlike anything seen in the modern era.

The rally also addressed a heated controversy surrounding the Ohio gubernatorial race between Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.

Ramswamy’s campaign recently aired an advertisement featuring Donna Arthur, Acton’s mother, who disputes her daughter’s account of a childhood involving homelessness and sexual abuse.

Acton has stated she has not seen her mother since 1978, while her brother has supported her account of the abuse by a stepfather who was charged with rape and died in 2004.

Obama sided with Acton, noting that she spoke movingly about her painful childhood, including abuse, neglect, and homelessness.

He criticized Ramaswamy for crossing lines in the debate, questioning why standards of behavior had dropped so low that such an ad could be aired.

Current polls indicate that Democrats hold a slight lead in both the governor’s race and the Senate race in Ohio, though results are expected to be close.
