Cuyahoga Falls is set to unveil its significantly upgraded RiverLoop, a development designed to reshape how visitors interact with the local waterway and the surrounding commercial district. The city will host a grand opening ceremony for the new trail and the associated South Front Street Transformation on Saturday, October 24. The public celebration is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Pavilion and Plaza, located at 2085 Front St. Mayor Don Walters will guide an official tour of the new infrastructure at noon, marking the formal handover of the project to the community.

The RiverLoop serves as a central component of a broader $7.1 million investment. This specific section creates a three-quarter-mile path that physically links the riverfront with the businesses lining Front Street. Mayor Walters described the area as absolutely gorgeous, noting that the city possesses the best downtown in the region and that this addition enhances that reputation. The construction effort required more than a year of work to complete, transforming a previously underutilized space into a vibrant public area.

Construction crews focused heavily on structural integrity and accessibility during the renovation. The lower wooden boardwalk beside the river was completely rebuilt with a brand-new foundation, new boards, and updated materials. Above this section, a new concrete walkway now runs parallel to the water. This upper path is wider than its predecessor and meets ADA accessibility standards, ensuring that more residents and tourists can navigate the route comfortably.

The route features several new amenities intended to encourage lingering and social interaction. These include scenic overlooks, public art installations, and a stage that faces the river. The stage area is surrounded by colorful artwork and built-in seating. Walters noted that this space can hold well over 100 people and offers a perfect backdrop for events. Beyond the immediate riverfront, the South Front Street Transformation includes streetscape improvements that aim to tie the river more closely to the downtown business district.

Local merchants are viewing the project with optimism. Nathan Walden, owner of Hope Soap, a shop on Front Street that produces hand-made soaps and skin care products, believes the new trail will draw more foot traffic to nearby businesses. Walden stated that the area has seen an uptick in activity in recent years and considers the new RiverLoop a game-changer for the local economy. The shop sits directly along the route, positioning it to benefit from the increased visibility.

Education is a key theme of the new loop. The path includes 10 points of interest where visitors can learn about local wildlife, such as bald eagles and river otters, as well as the history of the Cuyahoga River. QR codes at each stop provide access to additional facts. Walters highlighted one specific detail: many people do not know that every drop of water in the river is on its way to Niagara Falls and the Atlantic Ocean. During the noon tour, guest speakers will share more stories behind the project's features.

Visitors can pick up a RiverLoop map to join the mayor's tour or explore independently. Members of the architectural and construction teams, along with city staff who contributed to the project, are expected to attend the event. Light refreshments will be available, and Mayor Walters plans to officiate a wedding at a venue within the RiverLoop during the celebration. Although the opening coincides with pleasant autumn weather, Walters emphasized that the attraction is designed for year-round enjoyment.
